Do

Do Involve members of the work team, asking them to relate their own observations about the recipient’s contributions.

Do think of who else should be in attendance. Major milestones might call for the presence of senior management, family or friends from other divisions.

Do consider asking others who know the recipient to say a few words about his or her accomplishments.

Do add spice and excitement to the presentation.
e.g.  Tell a positive and influential memorable story.
e.g.  Take pictures and publish the photos in a company website, newsletter, or bulletin board.

Don't

Don't make sexist remarks or innuendos when giving the presentation.

Don't imply continued employment.
e.g.  Thank you Brady for the five years you have contributed to the company, I look forward to seeing your accomplishments within the next 5 years. *This implies extended employment with the company and the employee can hold this statement against the company.

Don't be unprepared for the presentation.  Focus on the 5 W’s and you will prevail. *This implies that you were not excited and focused for the presentation, the recipient will feel unappreciated.
